Yeast infections

Yeast infections cause itching, and pain for people all over the world. It is commonly cause by Candida albicans, a fungus normally found in small numbers in the vagina, though other types of fungi can also be found.

Yeast infections are a common and often frustrating form of vaginal infection which occurs in about 1.3 million American women each year. By far the most common – causing nearly 80 percent of vaginal yeast infections is Candida albicans.

Yeast infection are not life threatening but the vaginal itching can be severe enough to make daily life misery. In addition, if a woman has a yeast infection during childbirth, the baby can swallow yeast and develop a condition called thrush.

The condition known as a yeast infection or candidiasis can affect all the following body parts: oral cavity, penis, vagina, nipples, folds of skin on the buttocks, ears and immune compromised people.

Yeast infections are very common and may be triggered by stress, a diet high in sugars and carbohydrates, antibiotics, birth control pills, pregnancy and tight fitting clothing.
